Okail :U.S. support for Israel is no longer mere military assistance; it has become direct complicity in war crimes and genocide.
Mokhtar: The international community and the International Criminal Court must open an investigation into the criminal responsibility of U.S. officials under Article 25 of the Rome Statute for aiding and abetting war crimes.
The Maat association for Peace, Development, and Human Rights has issued a human rights report titled “The Impact of U.S. Military Support Provided to Israel on the Escalation of Violations of International Humanitarian Law in the Arab Region.”
This report documents how the ongoing U.S. military support to Israeli occupation forces under President Donald Trump since January 2025 has enabled the execution of indiscriminate and disproportionate attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure in six Arab states Gaza, Lebanon, Qatar, Iraq, Syria, and Yemen. These attacks have resulted in the deaths of thousands of civilians and widespread destruction of homes, hospitals, farms, and supply routes.
The report focuses on three main axes that document the repercussions of the transfer of U.S. weapons to Israeli occupation forces on human rights in the Arab region: The first axis addresses the serious violations of international and domestic legal obligations in which the United States has been complicit, including breaches of the Geneva Conventions, the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, the Arms Trade Treaty, and the circumvention of the U.S. “Leahy Law,” which prohibits military assistance to units committing human rights violations.
The second axis reveals the arms deals provided by the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump to Israeli occupation forces since he took office. The value of the announced deals exceeds $17.9 billion and includes the supply of highly destructive weapons. The third axis focuses on the field aspect by documenting direct Israeli violations carried out using this arsenal in several Arab countries up to March 2026. This places these weapons at the core of accountability for the documented human and material damage in the region.
In this context, human rights expert and Chairman of the Maat Ayman okail stated: “The U.S. military support for Israel is no longer mere military assistance; it has become direct complicity in war crimes and genocide. There are deals worth billions of dollars involving heavy bombs and precision munitions that have been supplied to Israeli occupation forces and are now being used to destroy homes, hospitals, and farms in the Gaza Strip, southern Lebanon, and southern Syria. This constitutes a flagrant violation of Common Article 1 of the Geneva Conventions and the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.”
Okail stressed that the U.S. administration must realize that its silence and continued arming of the occupation forces make it a partner in the war crimes being committed.
Mohamed mokhtar Director of the Disarmament Unit at the Maat association for Peace, Development, and Human Rights, affirmed that the report constitutes an important legal and political document for international accountability. It provides evidence and documentation proving that U.S supplied weapons to the occupation forces have killed civilians in a number of Arab countries, including the Gaza Strip, Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen. He called on the international community and the International Criminal Court to open an investigation into the criminal responsibility of U.S. officials under Article 25 of the Rome Statute for aiding and abetting war crimes.
The report concludes with clear, practical recommendations directed at the U.S. administration, Congress, the Security Council, and the International Criminal Court. These include an immediate halt to arms deals with Israeli occupation forces, the activation of the U.S. Leahy Law, the need for independent investigations into the use of U.S. weapons in violations, and the filing of formal complaints before the International Criminal Court against those responsible for complicity. This initiative is part of the Maat association’s ongoing efforts to document war crimes, strengthen international accountability, and protect civilians in the Arab region.
