Maat Participates in Combating Greenwashing in Estonia

Within the framework of its participation in the “Combating Greenwashing” project, Maat held an interactive session entitled “Key Roles in Combating Greenwashing”, with the participation of a number of active youth participants from Malta, Estonia, Romania, Armenia, Slovenia, Hungary, Georgia, and Egypt.

The session addressed the different roles and responsibilities of stakeholders in confronting greenwashing. It highlighted the role of civil society organizations in raising awareness and building capacities, as well as mobilization, advocacy, and pressure to adopt policies and legislation that support sustainability and curb misleading environmental claims.

The session also discussed the role of governments and local authorities in developing legislative frameworks, strengthening oversight of environmental claims, enforcing laws, and creating an enabling environment for compliant companies, along with supporting community initiatives aimed at combating greenwashing.

The discussion further covered the role of the private sector in adopting genuine corporate social responsibility practices that achieve tangible, lasting environmental and social impact. It also emphasized the role of youth as key partners in driving change.

This participation comes within the “Greenwashing: Combating Greenwashing” project funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ programme. The project aims to enhance young people’s understanding of real sustainability practices and how to address greenwashing, while strengthening cooperation among partners working in sustainability awareness, contributing to the preparation of a generation better equipped to make conscious and responsible decisions regarding the environment.
